Why Choose Integrative PT?Who this is for

The pelvic floor is a dynamic group of muscles that responds to pressures and restrictions throughout the entire body, not just the pelvis itself. Treatment is gentle, precise, and always guided by what the tissues need to restore function and health.

Pelvic Floor PT may be helpful if you:

  • N
Have tried traditional pelvic floor physical therapy without desired results
  • N
Have persistent pelvic, abdominal, urinary, bowel, or related symptoms
  • N
Suspect your symptoms may be influenced by mechanical or emotional components
  • N
Are looking for a hands-on, integrative approach rather than exercise-based care

Pelvic Floor PTConditions and symptoms this may address

My skills are most helpful for resolving mechanical issues or emotional components of physical symptoms, especially when those symptoms have not improved with traditional pelvic floor physical therapy or allopathic medicine.

For example:

  • 5
    Pelvic pain or pressure
  • 5
    Abdominal pain or restriction
  • 5
    Pain with intercourse or erections
  • 5
    Postpartum-related concerns
  • 5
    Urinary or bowel symptoms
  • 5
    Scar tissue or post-surgical symptoms

Integrative Abdominal & Pelvic Floor PTMy approach to pelvic floor care

I practice pelvic floor therapy with the whole body in mind.

Symptoms in the pelvis are often influenced by restrictions elsewhere in the body, including the abdomen, spine, nervous system, or organs.

What a session looks like

Treatment sessions are 60 minutes and consist of specific, hands-on, integrative techniques.

Techniques Used:

  • Visceral Manipulation (VM)
  • Neural Manipulation (NM)
  • Viscerovascular Manipulation
  • Visceroemotional Relationships
  • Craniosacral Therapy (CST)
  • Craniosacral Fascial Therapy
  • Negative Pressure Cupping

Techniques are applied based on the findings from General and Local Listening, allowing related systems to integrate and heal.

Each session begins with a General Listening:

A way of asking the body where the area of greatest restriction is. This may or may not be the pelvis. Treatment always starts where the body indicates it is most needed.

Next step is a Local Listening:

A Local Listing provides specific information about which tissues or organs will be treated and which systems are involved.

Internal assessment and treatment

Internal vaginal and rectal assessment and treatment may be included when appropriate and only with patient consent. This is determined on a case-by-case basis and always discussed before proceeding.

How this differs from traditional PT

This is not traditional, exercise-based pelvic floor physical therapy.

If you are looking for exercise-based treatment, strengthening programs, or machine-based biofeedback, please visit the allied provider section for other resources.

Do you use biofeedback?

This is a common and sometimes confusing question.

I do not use biofeedback machines with probes or electrodes.

I do use biofeedback in the sense that my hands can sense muscle activation and tissue response. This allows me to give patients specific, real-time feedback about what their tissues are doing versus what they are trying to activate.

If your physician has ordered biofeedback using a machine, they are dictating the treatment approach and are likely referring to a biofeedback device. In that case, I recommend seeking another pelvic floor physical therapist who provides that service.

What techniques do you use?

I use a manual, whole-body approach that is designed to restore mobility and balance to the internal systems of the body. Focusing on the whole body, these advanced techniques address the root cause of dysfunction rather than just managing symptoms:

  • Visceral Manipulation
  • Neural Manipulation
  • Viscerovascular Manipulation
  • Visceroemotional Relationships
  • Craniosacral Therapy
  • Craniosacral Fascial Therapy
  • Negative Pressure Cupping
Can we strengthen my pelvic floor?

The pelvic floor is a dynamic system of muscles that responds to the whole body. By improving visceral restrictions, scar tissue, and bony alignment, pelvic floor strength may improve, but we will not be focused on traditional pelvic floor muscle strengthening or Kegels.

Pelvic floor muscles need so much more than strength to do their job well. They need endurance, coordination, and anticipation. The best way to train the pelvic floor muscles for strength, endurance, coordination, and anticipation is hypopressive exercise or low pressure fitness. Please visit the allied provider section for hypopressive/low pressure fitness resources.

Can we strengthen my core?

Your core is a dynamic system of muscles that responds to the whole body. By improving visceral restrictions, scar tissue, and breathing mechanics, core strength may improve, but we will not be focused on traditional core strengthening exercises. Please visit the allied provider section for more resources.
